In Lakota, the name for Cottonwood tree is the Rustling Tree, because of its affinity with the wind. The wind blows its leaves and carries the sound of its rustling roar through the air. In season, the cottonwood uses the wind to send its seeds wrapped in "cotton."

"An Evening At Riverfront" 11x14 Oil Paint can't capture what a beautiful night this truly was. While doing the study for this painting, a squirrel critiqued my work from above, several geese flew overhead (love the sound of their wings flapping), and leopard frogs croaked out nature's love song.

I'll be starting an oil painting class April 5fth down at Q's Art Shop on 6th Avenue.
In the class, you will learn techniques that will help you paint from photographs as well as from life. Bring your own photos or paint the still life I will have set up for everyone.

Tyler Murphy is a young artist from Joliet, MT. He currently lives in Billings and studies art at Rocky Mountain College. Coming from a family of artists, Tyler has a natural talent that speaks for itself. While developing this talent, he has received many state-wide awards and scholarships. Tyler is enamored with the whole atmosphere and tradition of western art and considers himself a Montana artist. His primary focus is thus the West: its landscapes, people, and wildlife. Tyler feels especially fortunate to have studied under great artists like Loren Entz, Joyce Lee, and Lance Johnson.
At age 21, Tyler has proven to be a serious artist.
